Sergio J. Alvarado, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained pain management physician at Spine & Pain Center of San Antonio in San Antonio and Live Oak, Texas. He is board-certified in pain medicine and anesthesiology, has many years of experience, and holds a medical license in the state of Texas.
Dr. Alvarado is nationally recognized for his work with patients and for educating other physicians. He spent several years as a faculty member at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, training other physicians in pain-reducing medical procedures.
He provides comprehensive pain care that includes traditional pain treatments, holistic interventions, minimally-invasive injections, and complex procedures like vertebral augmentation and spinal cord stimulation.
Dr. Alvarado completed medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio Joe and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine. He also completed an internship in internal medicine, a residency in anesthesiology, and a fellowship in pain medicine at the same institution.
Before attending medical school, Dr. Alvarado worked as a licensed pharmacist for five years. He gained extensive knowledge about the medications used to treat pain disorders.
Dr. Alvarado is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Texas Pain Society, the International Spinal Injection Society (ISIS), and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
He is on the faculty at the University of Texas San Antonio Medical School and the Dannemiller Interventional Pain Course. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
